Mycelium Networking Installation 1.0

In real life, the vast mycelium network prompts us to reflect on how we are all interconnected and rely on each other to survive. What those connections look like, and how they can be utilised to solve problems. How we can grow beneath the surface. How we can adapt, persist, evolve. And what conditions are needed to reveal ourselves.

In this interactive installation supported by hypnotic animated visuals alongside an ambient soundscape, you are encouraged to reflect upon these prompts, and build your own network - literally!! You can share a book recommendation. Take a Polaroid. Write a haiku. Draw a picture. Share your feelings. Take a moment to breathe. Have fun. Respond to others. Imagine a better world. Be creative. Connect.

Adjacent to the installation space, is a relaxing room for artistic exploration. Provided with an array of materials, participants can create their own artwork entirely from scratch, make prints from a variety of edible mushrooms, and decorate bespoke colouring pages. The resultant artwork can be added to the installation network, taken home, or destroyed by the artist (environmentally, in the recycling bin!).

The Mycelium Networking Space was first developed for Mad Hearts 2023: Queering Boundaries.

SED EDI Funding has been awarded to Emilia to run this installation at Queen Mary University of London in 2024.
